A Cuencana Airlines Cessna 208B Grand Caravan cargo plane overran the runway at Mariscal La Mar Airport in Cuenca
On Thursday, October 8, 2026, a Cuencana Airlines Cessna 208B Grand Caravan cargo plane overran the runway at Mariscal La Mar Airport in Cuenca, Ecuador, falling down a small cliff and crashing onto a busy public road.
The aircraft arrived from Guayaquil and failed to stop while landing. It burst through the end of the runway, went down a slope, struck a utility pole, and came to a stop on Avenida Hurtado de Mendoza. Flight tracking data indicated it was traveling at roughly 92 knots with only about 500 meters of runway remaining
The aircraft was carrying valuables for Ecuador’s Central Bank. Two people were on board, including the pilot.
No one was hurt.
