The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has uncovered what it describes as a fake distance-learning centre operating from a three-bedroom apartment in Lado Olurunda Local Council Development Area, Lagos State.
Officers rescued 106 students, mostly aged between 19 and 24, who were allegedly deceived with promises of admission into a foreign university. The centre reportedly had no registration, recognised campus, or official identity, despite marketing itself online as an affiliate of a foreign institution.
Victims allegedly paid between N200,000 and N1.5 million, while some foreign nationals paid up to $500. The NSCDC said the operation also involved a referral scheme where students were encouraged to recruit others for commissions.
The alleged proprietor has been arrested as investigations continue. The discovery comes amid ongoing warnings from the National Universities Commission against illegal degree-awarding institutions.
